Indian fast bowler Mohammed Siraj’s hard work on the field has now been recognized off the field too, as he officially took charge as Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in Telangana on Friday. He reported to the Director General of Police (DGP) to start his new role.

Siraj, who has represented India in 89 matches and helped lift the T20 World Cup trophy earlier this year, received this honor from the Telangana government. He’s not the only athlete to be given this respect—back in July, the Telangana government also announced Group-1 jobs for Siraj and two-time world champion boxer Nikhat Zareen, acknowledging their achievements in sports.
Siraj will continue to play for the Indian Cricket team as well. After Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s announcement, the state government even amended the Telangana Act of 1994 to make these appointments possible.
Siraj recently played in the two-match Test series against Bangladesh, taking four wickets to help India win both matches. For the T20I series against Bangladesh, Siraj has been rested, allowing young players like Arshdeep Singh and Mayank Yadav to take the field.
